It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Reading)

Second Book Selection!

Good evening, darlings!

I know you thought we disappeared already, but never fear! I don’t know about Brittany, but I can honestly say this is one of the busiest summers of my life.

I hope everyone enjoyed reading The Great Gatsby, though I’m sure for many of you it wasn’t your first time reading it. Again, you’re more than welcome to just read along, but the best part of any book club is the discussion of it! We’ll, of course, continue to post and reblog things relevant to the material (or maybe not relevant—this is our party, and we can blog what we want to~).

For our second book selection, we’re giving you two choices—a pick from each of us. You only have to read one, don’t worry (unless you want to read them both, of course), and the choice is up to you.

  • Brittany’s pick: Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
  • Ashley’s pick: Looking for Alaska by John Green

We’ll be giving you a little over two weeks again for whichever book you choose. I know many of you have jobs/classes/etc. over the summer, but hey, if there’s no time to read duringsummerimagine how it’s going to be when school starts up again (good god, please don’t get me started).

General Instructions:

Since this a blog-run book club, we won’t be able to sit together on someone’s plastic-covered, floral furniture sipping on gin and complaining about our absentee husbands and bratty children.

Instead, as you finish the book submit your review or response to the blog.

It can be as a video, blog, audio, photo, or photo + text post. Be creative.

If you complete the book and your response before the deadline of finishing the book, please note if there are are spoilers in your post.

The responses don’t have to be long or even eloquent. Just a simple ‘yay’ or ‘nay’ along with an explanation why will suffice, no matter what the length or quality is. This isn’t a school assignment; these readings are for fun so treat it that way :)

After the deadline, however, there will be no necessity for you to tag your spoilers.

The unofficial deadline for finishing either Lolita or Looking for Alaska will be July 20. After that date, there will be no need to tag your spoilers. You can beginning submitting your reviews/responses at any time, whether it be 5 minutes from now or 5 minutes before we post the next book (which will probably be on July 23).

Feel free to send in suggestions at any time! We’ll always be watching out for them.

As always, have fun! This is all for you (well, mostly for you—we’re selfish and can’t give you all of it, shh)! Hope your summer is going deliciously so far!
